An anime where a demon king works at fast food restaurant and his demon lord play the role of a house husband. Sounds like a comedy? well, it is and a quite good one too. Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-Timer!), is an anime adapted from a light novel. I know this doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be good, and not light novels are good as they claim to be. But this time It is
Story
The demon king Satan with his four generals invades and mostly conquer Ente Isla the human world. And human wold's answer to this is a Hero named Emilia Justina. With the help of the power-hungry church and some good companions, The hero attacks the demon lords one after another and defeats them except for one. The wise demon lord Alciel, retreats to the demon king castle to join forces with the demon king Satan. Even with the combined strength, all they manage to save is their lives. So the Demon king utters the famous last words "I'll be back" and blindly opens a gate and flees.
They end up in Tokyo without a clue where they are. Amazed by the human technology and their lack of power. They learn to peacefully live in the society biding their time. after some time, on a rainy day, The demon king Satan, now goes by the name of Maou Sadao, sees a beautiful girl drenched in rain and offers his tattered umbrella. He has become a kind person, or he was like that, to begin with. So when we see that girl waiting for him outside his work. It natural to think that there's going to be some romantic stuff right? But poor Maou Sadao is not that lucky.
Because that beautiful girl happens to be none other than The Hero, Emilia Justina, who came all the way from Ente Isla to hunt down and kill the Demon lord with a kitchen knife which she brought from a 100 yen store.
The Comedy Parts
The whole thing is considered a comedy, but I can't say it's all light-hearted comedy stuff. There are instant stuff like Chi-chan's reactions and the hero's thundere act. But most of the big ones has a build up. Like the one, I mentioned above. I don't want to mention other because that would spoil things for those who haven't watched it yet. So It's good comedy, you can probably watch it with a goofy smile on your face. Which is fun, when nobody is watching.
Character Development
Most of the character If not all changed their views over time. You could say they were forced to change. Like the hero's attitude and views. And they also seem to learn few things from each other. I don't want to go into details and spoil things but their wives ideals and characteristics aren't written in stone.
Ships
Like for all the other books, and shows, the crazies like me, would ship characters and make an armada out of them. So for shipping people, obviously Chiho and Maou. Everyone knows that Chiho has a thing for the demon king. And Maou and Emilia, because they always fight and makes a great couple. Especially with the new moe character that will be arriving in next season (If there ever will be one). I Know It'll be cliche with them being The Demon king and The Hero but I think It'll be alright.
Trailer
Okay I admit, this is a bit misleading but...
