When I heard about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, I was so excited. It was like something from my childhood came back. The books were simply awesome and because of that, I read tons of fanfictions too. Not to mention the games and the movies. Just loved the whole lot of them. So it's safe to assume that I was a big fan. After finding out that this book was not a novel but a script to play I was a bit disappointed. I was hoping for a novel.
The story is about Albus Potter, Harry's second son. He finds it difficult to live up to his father's name. The story focuses mainly on their relationship. He meets Scorpius Malfoy on his first train to Hogwarts, and they become instant friends. This friendship and the fact that he's a Slytherin seem to drive him into isolation. I expected his siblings and cousins would help him out but they hardly appear in the story. I suppose they wanted to minimize the cast because it's a play but I still can't help but feel a bit disappointed. There were times I almost gave up on reading this too. Which never happens with books. Maybe I don't like to read plays much.
The book isn't bad. It just doesn't live up to Harry Potter standards. It felt more like regular fanfiction than an official story. I don't regret reading this but I wouldn't have read it if I knew it was going to disappoint me.
